My poor, sad, neglected blog!

It’s been months since my last entry and so much has happened!

The little man is 2 (I still can’t believe that!), growing like a weed and oh so smart! He’s now speaking in proper sentences, addressing people and making random statements that are strangely in context. He’s extremely articulate and learns new words every day, I couldn’t be more proud of him or my wife for her efforts in teaching him what he knows.

Work is going really well, the company I work for are great and the boss’ are awesome. I work with a great bunch of people who are helping me learn some development skills while I’m doing my bit on support and training for clients.

Ausdroid hired me as one of their writers and podcast hosts. I think I’m doing pretty well there. I have some inside sources at a couple of carriers, I have “made friends” with a couple of the PR girls for various manufacturers and am trying to do the same with one of the marketing guru’s for Google in Australia at the moment too.

My PC is crippled – Mainboard died…
So I’ve hit up a mate of mine: Kirt from Ktron Computers for some bits and will upgrade my PC to an i5 with 8GB ram for Gaming. Which means I’ll be able to get back to Gaming again – HOORAY!

Added to this: I’m also studying again, through the State Emergency Service I’m currently undertaking Certificate IV in Training and Education which will allow me to further my training skills for SES and potentially in the future more into my paid work too. While on the subject of SES, I was recently awarded the 10 year long service medal for my services to the SES which began when I was 19.

That’s about all for now, I will do my best to enter at least 1 blog post on a weekly basis.
In the meantime, I’m active on Twitter and Gplus so hit me up there.

As an Android user having followed the WWDC with great interest, particularly iOS5 I don’t understand all the hate?

Let’s be honest here, Android used some of the concepts of their touch interface from iOS. Now iOS have fairly obviously copies the notifications from Android.
At the end of the day they’re 2 different operating systems but 2 very similar user interfaces now.

iOS is much more polished than Android (regardless of actual physcial handset) but keep in mind, it’s 2 generations older.

Both have their merits!
iPhone has it’s app store which is (despite being a closed market) very well designed and thought out. It’s also engineered to protect the user from malicious code in the apps.

Android – is pretty much a do what you like market!
If apps are discovered with malicious code, trackers etc they’re removed from the market by Google very quickly.
Personally I like the fact that on Android I can choose my handset, I can choose the look of the physical hardware and I can choose the feel of the phone and how it operates, even down to the keyboard (I’m currently running FlexT9 on recommendation from the guys at Ausdroid).

What I’d love to see one day (Yeah right!) is the acceptance from the Apple community of the Android environment. It’s got some strengths over the iOS environment, otherwise why copy the over the air updates and why is everyone so excited about notifications that Android have had since inception? I’d also love to see the Android community leave the iFanbois and girls alone, they’re happy! iOS is a really user friendly device set, it’s really well polished and gets updates across the board when they’re released (not when your carrier finishes testing the release and FINALLY gets around to pushing the update out over the air).

Cmon guys, stop the hate and share the love!
We’ve all got phones that work really well for our need.
